Successful Fundraising Event for All Our Children

Two supporters of All Our Children, Sue and Andy Boal, have organised a successful fundraising event in Lamalou-les-Bains in the Languedoc region of France.

Sue, an artist, and her husband Andy, a blues singer, arranged a very British coffee morning in the grounds of their house, but, in the searing 36°C July heat, this became more of an al fresco cold drinks morning.

Sue made a veritable of mountain of cakes and around thirty people of different nationalities paid their a €10 fee come along, eat cake and learn more about All Our Children’s valuable work in Kabale, Uganda.

Sue, using her connections, asked fellow artist friends to donate one or more paintings to be auctioned and David Rowley, a photographer, donated framed and mounted pictures of the local area.

In advance of the event, Sue organised a preview evening so that people could peruse the work and place commission bids.

During the coffee morning, Stan Blake, a retired British diplomat who knows Africa well, ran the auction with great aplomb, injecting a good deal of humour to the proceedings in both English and French.

All the paintings and photographs were bought, as well as small cards of both Sue and David’s work and some of Sue’s patchwork coasters.

Liz Walton OBE, the Chair of Trustees said, “The amazing news is that we raised £1140! I was astonished when we counted up!”

The money will go towards managing the costs of the student sponsorship program that All Our Children already has in place and it is hoped that it will be the first of many successful fundraising events over the coming months.
